Cognitive behaviour therapy is effective treatment that is widely used for conditions such as depression and anxiety. This therapy emphasizes cognitive, behavioural, and environmental factors in your treatment. It is based on the assumption that realistic and balanced thinking will influence your mood and behaviour.
Your therapist will examine certain behaviours, when they occur, and the consequences that follow the behaviour. This therapy will also help you to uncover your underlying core beliefs.
Mindfulness is the practice of purposely focusing your attention on the present moment, and accepting it without judgment. Mindfulness as a meditation technique helps shift your thoughts away from your usual preoccupations toward a larger perspective on life. Mindfulness is now being examined scientifically and has been found to be a key element in happiness, including the release of worries and the ability to form deep connections with others. Practicing mindfulness can bring improvements in both physical and psychological health.
A component of the Chokka Center for Integrative Health’s Intentional Living Medicine is a recent branch of psychology known as positive psychology.
According to the Harvard Special Health Report, “positive psychology attempts to move beyond the treatment of mental illness to study the basis of positive human emotions, including their neurological, psychological and physiological aspects.” More specifically, positive psychology studies positive emotions, personal characteristics of integrity, a person’s complete engagement in activities, and one’s quest for meaning and happiness.
Therapeutic treatment involves reviewing your symptoms, your relationships, everyday functioning, and your unique patterns of emotional responses and behaviours. You will be led in monitoring and challenging your automatic thoughts, and developing alternative ways of thinking.
